50 50 Vision

Getting closer every day… my journey as an authentic, determined creator is never complete. It’s certainly long and winding. A bit like a maze. Over the years, around each corner, I’ve been challenged and tested as to which way to turn, questions asked. Do I give up, what have I learned? I’ve learned too much and I’ll never give up!

Sometimes it feels like I’m starting my career over and over again, but I think that’s just what we do… deciphering, evolving and maturing, right?

Last week I went over to Palma to shoot from the heart. The first in many indulgent treats I have planned this year to celebrate my 50th birthday in June. I decided upon a year of adventures celebrating all the things I care deeply about… photography, friends, family, travel, food, my health and of course, disco!!

Looking back, I’ve worked hard since leaving college and I’m only just appreciated that my career in photography has taken a few guises, but is consistent within the photography industry. From my first ever days at Magnum Photos with an awesome work experience stint to The Mail on Sunday Travel picture desk; to shooting pubs, hotels and food for Fullers Brewery around the UK. And here I am today with well over 500 Bar and Bat Mitzvahs under my belt and a portrait studio in the heart of Elstree, where I’ve lived for the last few years. At this junction in my life, I am super proud.

So number one on the 50th bucket list was to shoot again with one of my favourite educators, Nicola Dixon. She provides an effortless retreat for like-minded photographers to fill their souls with all the time and creativity a girl could wish for. It’s mostly women that go, but I’m sure the lads are more than welcome!!!

Shooting weddings has always been my side hustle as my main focus is Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, which require different disciplines and of course miles apart in the cycle of life. However, I’m so there for romance, love, intimacy and vulnerability. Making these moments become your forever memories is my passion.

Blogging is something I don’t usually have time to do, but this month is typically quiet in the Jewish calendar so I want to share some fun… Below is a selection of pictures I pulled out from when I started my photography journey. In the first pic, I’m holding a Sony A7iii which is forever my pride and joy (credit due to the wonderful Emily Robinson) …… compared to me holding my first professional digital camera the mighty Canon. I had both the Mark 2 and 3 (shown in the photo booth collage). The black and white picture was my first serious camera - a Minolta that my dad gave me when I was 16….then there was the original bathroom selfie shot with a pocket Olympus circa 2000 and check out me graduating in 1993 with my trusty Nikon F5 …. BLOODY LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! Results!!!!

Anyway, I just wanted to appreciate the love I have for my job, my life and my support system that is firmly in place. It's going to be a remarkable year!!!
