My Right of Passage

I can’t actually believe it’s taken me so long to put these words down but to be honest, I’ve been gliding through the summer months working so hard making little and often posts about the new portrait studio instead of making the one big blog instead.

So here it is. My own right of passage has well and truly begun. In February I opened up my very own family and headshot studio right in the heart of my community in Elstree and Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. Since March 2020, I realised life will never be the same for me after the Pandemic. Time was precious and my years of working relentlessly hard had all of a sudden piled up behind me like a cartoon car crash in a perfect concertina. My heels were dug in so deep into my routine I had to take a moment to figure out what I should do next. What could I do in this moment of madness and what is most important to me? How will I make this opportunity shape my future? My mind started racing as to how I can adapt to the new normal and embracing the change was my only conclusion.

I wanted to capture lost time. I wanted to make a memory and fill in the empty holes from every moment, weeks and subsequently months we had lost not being together and most of all I longed to communicate with people. To chat and hear about their experiences and learn about life more and more.

I turned 49 this year and realised I’d spent all of my 40’s behind the lens in a party that wasn’t even mine and I felt like it was time to get out from behind the camera and discover a side of myself and my creativity that had not been explored yet. You see, when I started my business in 2010 I dove headfirst into the niche world of Bar and Bat Mitzvahs and had such an instant success with my business, I began to hone my event skills with very little time for anything else. In fact, I'm not even sure how to be 50 but I’m learning as fast as I can!!

With all that in mind, I have created a space for us all to change. My gorgeous studio is a perfect environment for a first-time experience. It enables me to be the host of an exclusive party with a very special guest (YOU) and a sole intention to nurture you to comfort and confidence. The idea of the studio is to be a place where you can be the best version of yourself, without the pressure of any outside noise or influence. I want kids to be young and natural, not filtered or famous, for women to be vulnerable and vivacious. The idea is to not put off making memories for when and if…. the moment is now. My simple intention is to guide you, so you can dive deep into your secret power and rise to the surface for you to take strength from now and your future to enjoy forever.

The experience is available for families, personal branding, women in their 40’s or 50’s, kids and teens and also a commercial space too. I’ve already hired the studio out a few times so keep your thinking hats on if you have something you want to promote.

Here is a little glimpse of what I have achieved in the last 6 months….. The Bronze awards have been rewarded to me by The Portrait Masters where I have aligned my journey. The Portrait Masters are an organisation created by some of the finest industry leaders that enable portrait photographers to grow and expand a successful business and be part of a supportive international community with an accreditation programme that sets the bar for like-minded creatives. I look forward to becoming a UK accredited photographer in the coming years.

This is just the beginning of my journey over the other side of 50. I can achieve anything I want to and all I wish for is the space and safety to do so…..
